KTU ePubl is an Open Access institutional repository.
Open Access means unrestricted online access to scholarly research and an opportunity to disseminate it.
The principles of Open Access were formulated in three major documents: the Budapest Open Access Initiative (2002), the Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing (2003) and Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities (2003). Open Access publications may be accessed for free by the end users – researchers, students or wider public. Authors of publications benefit from visibility and access to their research results, and thus increased citations.
Open Access publications reach the users through Open Access Journals and (or) repositories. Publishing in an open access journal is known as 'gold' open Access, whereas self-archiving journal articles in an open access repository – as 'green' open access
