Abstract [eng] |
With the rapid development of urban lighting technologies, the question of forming a cityscape during the nighttime is increasingly being raised in Western countries. Although modern man is used to a glowing nightscape, the significance of artificial lighting for environmental perception is still poorly understood; therefore, the process of modelling a cityscape is usually spontaneous and chaotic. In Lithuania, the functionality of lighting solutions for public spaces is assessed only in terms of economy, yet aesthetics and visual formation of the city's identity are not discussed at all. This project investigates the enormous potential of space arrangement using responsibly designed night city lighting. It also describes the parameters of lighting that emphasizes the unique features of spaces and proposes specific solutions for Kaunas city that would reduce light pollution and increase overall safety, legibility and livability. |
