Nowadays not just Panevėžys, but the whole world faces a dependency on cars by residents of the cities. Cities create sustainable mobility plans, visions and strategies for future development. At this moment, Panevėžys city is stagnant – it lacks liveliness, automobiles conquer the city, people are not satisfied with their living conditions. These problems are deteriorating because of city sprawl. Panevėžys city requires not only sustainable mobility but also a development plan. As an accepted worldwide practice, transit-oriented development would be a perfect solution while bringing economical, ecological and psychological benefits for the cities and their residents. The thesis aims to offer transit-oriented development possibilities for Panevėžys city, determine potential. The project's foundation is theoretical and empirical studies, to tackle the motorization and appeal of the city. |
