The block maxima approach in extreme value theory is utilized for probabilistic assessment of total column ozone measured in Kaunas meteorological station. Generalized extreme value distribution and Gumbel distribution, which is a special case of generalized extreme value distribution, are fitted to the samples of total column ozone annual extremes. The return period for the ozone hole level total column ozone is estimated, as well as the return periods for the absolute minimum and maximum total column ozone values measured during the complete observation period in Kaunas meteorological station. |
