Abstract [eng] |
Lithuania's demographic situation is one of the worst in Europe. Low birth rates and high emigration flows lead to a rapid process of population decline, accompanied by an ageing population. The forecast is pessimistic: the country's population will continue to decline. The deteriorating demographic situation also affects the country's economic environment and may undermine the country's competitiveness and growth potential. On the other hand, certain economic factors lead to changes in demographic indicators, resulting in demographic imbalances in the long run. Given this reciprocal relationship between demographic and macroeconomic aspects, it is important to determine whether it is specific to Lithuania and, if so, to assess it in order to properly form Lithuania's demographic and economic policies. |
