Abstract [eng] |
The main purpose of this master's final project is to investigate the influence of municipal solid waste incinerator bottom ash on the durability properties of cement products. In the theoretical part, the possibilities of using municipal solid waste and wood waste incinerator bottom ash are reviewed. Also, the chemical composition of bottom ashes and their influence on the physical and mechanical properties of samples are analyzed. Mechanical (compressive strength), physical (porosity, water absorption, freezing resistance), and environmental corrosion properties of concrete are investigated after replacing part of the fine aggregate (sand) with unwashed municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash. Leaching toxicity from hardened concrete products is also investigated. Tests have shown that unwashed municipal solid waste incinerator bottom ash can be used in manufacturing cement products. The optimal amount of bottom ash in the concrete mix is 10 percent. Bottom ash increased compressive strength and improved the freezing as well as chloride resistance properties of the concrete. The concentration of chemical compounds of unwashed municipal solid waste bottom ash during leaching does not exceed the limit values, therefore the bottom ash can be safely used in the production of cement products, therefore reducing the damage to the environment, saving energy and natural resources. |
