Abstract [eng] Fixed biofilm reactors are widely used for treating industrial wastewater with high contamination in organic compounds. Moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR) are classified as hybrid reactors, where fixed biomass grows on moving carriers and incorporates suspended biomass in the same reactor volume. Carriers modifications improves cells adhesion on the surface and improve the initial formation of biofilms, which has a positive impact on wastewater treatment`s biological process. In this work, three types of modifications were performed on chosen plastic carriers and evaluated each one’s impact on wastewater treatment`s biological process. Research done on a laboratory scale shown, that carrier modified with sand (24 h) had deepest micro-patterning. MBBR with this carrier maintained the highest concentration of activated sludge, wastewater treatment efficiency was better than using other modified carriers. Impact on sludge volume index with unmodified and modified carriers was also defined.
