Currently, the non-governmental (NGO) sector is facing a information disclosure problem, also known as the problem of transparency and accountability, which has a negative impact on the credibility of the NGO sector. Transparency in the social context, means openness, communication and accountability. As NGOs are formed to serve the well-being of stakeholders rather than the leaders of the organization, organizations must provide the public with evidence that their activities are in line with the values of the organizations. Although the NGO sector is growing rapidly, the level of NGO information disclosure is not changing, while stakeholder trust is declining. This raises the question of whether the information disclosure of NGOs could affect stakeholder trust, which is critical to the success of organizations. Therefore, the aim of the master thesis is to determine the level of NGOs information disclosure in Lithuania and the impact of the information disclosure on the trust of stakeholders. Firstly, the study revealed the issues of the impact of NGOs information disclosure on stakeholder trust. Then, the impact of the NGOs information disclosure on stakeholder trust was theoretically substantiated. After analyzing the scientific literature, a research methodology on the impact of information NGOs information disclosure on the trust of stakeholders in Lithuania was developed. Finally, a research of the level of NGOs information disclosure in Lithuania and the impact of the information disclosure on the trust of stakeholders was conducted. The results of the study revealed that the level of NGOs disclosures in Lithuania is low, and the NGOs disclosures needs of stakeholders are not met. Many stakeholders feel the lack of NGOs disclosures, also stakeholders are not assured of the credibility of the NGO sector in Lithuania. Finally, a statistical analysis of the impact of NGO disclosures on stakeholder trust revealed that there is a significant relationship between NGO disclosures and stakeholder trust. Higher levels of NGOs disclosures have a positive effect on stakeholder trust. Disclosure of both financial and non-financial information can not only significantly improve stakeholder confidence in the NGO sector, but also contribute to the success of the organization. Therefore, the NGOs disclosures are considered to be an effective means of ensuring the continuity of the organization's activities. The findings and recommendations may be useful for NGOs seeking to improve their information disclosures policies or increase stakeholder trust in them. |
