Abstract [eng] Due to active impact of globalization processes on competition, the increasing competitiveness is becoming one of the main factors for economic growth and prosperity of the country. Therefore, countries in today’s open and integrated world economy need to ensure fast and sustainable increase in competitiveness. Internationalization of companies is one of the main ways to maintain competitiveness in a globalized economy. Internationalization provides companies a possibility to find more customers, suppliers, attract new technologies and thus improve business performance results. This is especially important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which represent the majority of global private sector companies and create more than half of jobs. Studies carried out on the scale of the EU reveal that the activities of internationalized SMEs are more successful is compared with non-internationalized companies; however, majority of companies still face rather many difficulties to enter international markets, and achieved outcome of internationalization often does not meet planned expectations. It can be explained by the fact that companies’ motives in respect of international markets differ; moreover, the companies invoke different factors to ensure their internationalization success, and it results in different internationalization outcome. In this context, it is necessary to analyze the relationship between internationalization motives and success factors of enterprises. The main results. Based on the analyzed scientific sources, a conceptual model for research of the relationship between internationalization motives and success factors of enterprises has been developed. To verify the model, the instrument for empirical analysis has been prepared with reflection of the main elements of the developed model. The empirical analysis has been carried out using methods of personal formal interview and anonymous questionnaire survey. The analysis covered both companies planning to enter international markets and those operating in the international markets.
