| Abstract [eng] |
The study of the Kaunas Old Town territory proposes a solution for activating abandoned and underutilized areas in key urban locations. The project presents urban guidelines and principles for the "revitalization" of such sites. Specifically, it examines the situation of the selected territory between Jonavos, M. Valančiaus, Šaukliai and Jonavos streets, detailing local solutions that remain contextually attached to the historical environment. The development principles proposed in the project are based on a literature analysis (life – space – buildings), identifying existing local elements and creating a strong sense of place. The project incorporates public opinion and expert insights, which were crucial in shaping the connections, spaces, and building volumes of the site. The final result of the project is a walkable, multi-functional quarter consisting of three distinct hubs: gastronomy, culture, and trade. The volumetric composition is based on the use of two architectural expressions: inspired architecture and contrast architecture. In this way, a harmonious panorama of Kaunas Old Town is formed, where the new quarter blends into the city silhouette, maintaining respect for history while emphasizing the novelty of the contemporary era. |
