Abstract [eng] The research problem is caused by the lack of research on primary school students’ learning strategies while composing a written text. The aim of this study was to reveal the possibilities of the development of primary school students' writing abilities using learning strategies. To reach the aim the following objectives were set: 1) to define theoretical reason of the development of primary school students' writing abilities using learning strategies, 2) to base research methodology for the possibilities of primary school students' writing abilities using learning strategies, 3) to determine 2-4 graders’ learning strategies while writing a narrative text in Lithuanian (as a mother tongue) and their possibilities to improve writing abilities. The results of this study show that learning strategies can be used to improve primary school students' writing abilities. Students already use some learning strategies but most of them turned out to be used in a microlevel of the text. What is more, sometimes students use learning strategies that cannnot be transferred to other contexts. Futhermore, students might know some strategies but they do not use them while doing the task. It was also revealed that teachers encourage students to use different learning strategies but not all of them are transferrable to other contexts, some of them are similar to teaching strategies. The results of an educational experiment show that primary school students can learn to use a text planning strategy in a rather short period of time and this strategy can improve their narrative texts.
