The Lithuanian Road Administrations collected data shows that around 30 percent of all accidents involve pedestrians in whom at least 70 pedestrians are killed and at least 1,000 are wounded. Only about 6 ÷ 8 per cent of all traffic accidents are caused by pedestrians, which indicates that the drivers are more responsible for the traffic accidents. The purpose of this experimental research is to determine the ability of the driver to avoid collision with pedestrians in different traffic situations. Analyze the mechanism of a collision with a pedestrian and other variable dimensions when moving the car and pedestrians at different .This research analyzes the main causes of pedestrian collision with the vehicle and the technical ability of the driver to avoid pedestrian rundown. The investigation of the impact of a collision is determined by the direction of the pedestrian movement, the speed of its movement and the distance traveled an obstacle to the movement of the car and the speed of the car. The driver's technical ability is determined by comparing the distance at which the car was left when there was a danger to traffic safety (when the pedestrian entered the roadway). The main methods, used in practice, for the investigation of the traffic situation mechanisms, are by mathematical calculations and computer simulations of the traffic accident reconstruction. After pedestrian rundowns experiments (simulations), it was found that the driver's technical ability to avoid a collision with a pedestrian is greatly influenced by the speed of the car and the driver's reaction to the upcoming threat to road safety. Pedestrians walking behavior has an effect on, creating an obstacle to the movement of the car. The faster driver reacts to an obstacle and the lower speed he drives, the more technical time the driver has to stop the driving car short of hitting the pedestrian. Also, the longer the reaction time, the longer the car's stopping distance and the smaller technical ability to avoid pedestrian rundown. |
