When mapping the area of Lithuania, place-names presented by linguists or given in documents are used. The spelling differences of these names in different sources and over-generalised locations cause the importance of localisation specification and choice of spelling for cartographers. A signal map prepared by cartographers must be reviewed by a specialist of Lithuanian language. But we cannot avoid mistakes in maps because of the linguists incompetence to perform the localisation of small hydronyms. This paper includes a specific material about place-names in different sources. |
