Abstract [eng] |
The competitiveness of the Lithuanian wood industry is influenced by both economic, political and legal, social and technological factors. The activities of the companies belonging to this industry are inseparable from the construction, real estate, transport and logistics sectors. For the purpose of competitiveness, the importance of the wood industry for larger groups of wood companies, the developed export, the ability to attract new customers in the domestic and foreign markets is important. Problematic questions: What are the aspects of the competitiveness of the Lithuanian Wood Companies? How and by what means could Lithuanian wood industry companies become more competitive? The aim of the work: to evaluate the competitiveness of Lithuanian wood industry enterprises and to determine the directions of its increase. The Lithuanian wood industry is comprised of more than two thousand enterprises engaged in wood processing and the production of paper and furniture, wooden houses, firewood and other wood products. The current situation in the labour market (rising employment rates, decreasing unemployment rates), human resources of enterprises and their planning (the number of employees in the wood industry is decreasing every year from 2013, in particular the production of wood and wood and cork products), investment in personnel training helps the wood industry enterprises to succeed in business, to exploit all opportunities and to be competitive. The decline in unemployment has improved the turnover of the major wood industry groups. When analyzing the turnover of the largest furniture companies in the Lithuanian wood industry (SBA, VM), it turned out that the companies experienced a decline in turnover only in 2009, during the economic downturn. The average salary of employees in the timber industry is growing every year, but still lags behind the average wage in the economy. By increasing prices for imported wood and paper, local producers are forced to increase their prices for already produced products. In order to strengthen the competitiveness of the Lithuanian wood industry companies, it would be appropriate to continue investing in new production technologies, employees, looking for new export markets, etc. |
