Computer networks are becoming essential part of everyday life and business. Advances in technology are having direct effect on complexity of IT environment and growing number of attack vectors. Security tools and methods have to be constantly updated and developed, network must be constantly monitored and assessed against various security best practices and standards. To facilitate this process companies are involving both internal and external security auditors and wide range of security assessment tools. Small and medium companies in many cases cannot allocate enough resources to implement complex systems and procure expensive security services Expert systems are one of the ways to assess network security. Expert system is a collection of software tools designed to solve problems in particular domain. These systems use databases to store domain expert knowledge expressed in rules which are used to analyze user provided network security data. This paper covers expert system usage in network security assessment. |
