Abstract [eng] |
The development and rapid change of information technology is making it an essential part of learning, working and living. Interactivity is becoming a part of the learning process that engages students in active learning. One of the most important competences in early foreign language education is communication. It is developed through improving listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Learners are curious and receptive to different technologies, but they have different ways of absorbing knowledge and learning. Interactive learning tools are widely used in learning. The question is whether interactive teaching/learning tools can have an impact on the learning engagement of primary school learners. The aim of this paper is to increase the engagement of primary school learners using interactive learning tools. To achieve this aim, it analyses the characteristics of primary school learners' English language learning, investigates teachers' attitudes towards the use of interactive tools to increase students' engagement, reviews the possibilities of using interactive learning tools, develops a framework for promoting engagement using interactive tools, and investigates the effectiveness of the framework. The methods used in this work include analysis of academic literature, projection, questionnaire surveys, semi-structured interview, and data analysis. A system for engaging primary school learners in English language learning has been created using the Google Classroom environment, which integrates interactive learning tools. It was used for independent leaning for grade four learners. The interactive tools were tested in the classroom by second and third grade learners. A study on the effectiveness of the tools and the system showed that the use of the interactive tools increased student engagement. The paper presents the conclusions and recommendations of the study on the effectiveness of the designed system. |
