Abstract [eng] The Master's thesis project identifies the concept of trust, what is institutional trust, how trust is differentiated and what are the main factors affecting public trust in institutions. The issue of trust in institutions is frequently discussed in society. The concept of trust has been studied since antiquity, but it was only in the Enlightenment that the concept of trust began to be analyzed more widely, and it has been defined by scholars in various fields, such as sociologists, political scientists and psychologists. In the current world, there is an increasing amount of research on the subject of trust, which makes it possible to identify the fact that trust in institutions has been falling since 2020. It is therefore important to identify the factors that contribute to the decline in institutional trust. This is the basis for the formulation of the final project's problem question - what are the factors influencing the decline in public trust in public institutions? In order to identify the factors, analyses of Eurobarometer and ESS survey data are carried out to identify which factors have the greatest impact on trust in public institutions. The focus of the paper is on the factors that lead to changes in trust in public institutions. The aim of the final project is to analyze the impact of trust factors on changes in trust in public institutions. For the purpose of the research, three tasks are formulated, the first one is to identify the concept of trust, theoretical aspects and factors influencing public trust, the second one is to identify, on the basis of the scientific literature, the main factors influencing public trust, and the third one is to determine empirically which factors, according to the opinion of the public, have had an impact on public trust in Lithuania in different periods. The research is carried out using a data analysis of scientific literature and secondary sources, which identifies the level of trust and the factors influencing it, and a secondary data analysis, which analyses and compares the results of the Eurobarometer and the ESS.
