After Lithuania became a full-fledged member of the European Union (EU) certain changes occurred which contributed to the improvement of living standards in Lithuania. Free movement of goods, capital, services, and people among the member states, and especially EU financial support, brought in a number of economic changes to Lithuania. Therefore, the assessment of the EU Structural Funds operation became a very relevant topic. It is important not only to absorb EU structural funds, but to ensure that it is used effectively to obtain the greatest possible economic benefits. This encourages a discussion about the appropriate use of funds, the improvement of the operational process, while approaching toward the main goal of EU regional policy is the convergence of all the EU member countries. |
