Abstract [eng] |
Migration as a phenomenon is one of the most important and debatable, especially when it comes to the working-age people. Migration of the working-age people may lead country to both positive and negative effects and affect the economy as well. The migration process is relevant to Lithuania because Lithuania stands very high emigration phenomenon and the fact that a substantial proportion of young, capable of working people and the high-class specialists emigrate from the country. Emigration has increased since 2015 and is the danger for Lithuania's economy due to lack of manpower, a risk of the current pension system, future expansion and attracting investment. If the existing unemployed or technology are not able to fill labour shortages due to emigration of the working-age population, it can slow down the economy, create difficulties in the state budget due to the decreasing number of taxpayers and may cause lack of revenues in social security system. Therefore it is important to analyse the impact of labour force emigration on Lithuania's economic indicators and make recommendations on how to reduce the negative impact of labour force emigration on Lithuanian economy. |
