Abstract [eng] “The usage methods of agent technology in foreign language teaching systems and their research” is a Kaunas University of Technologies Master degree thesis in Software Engineering. Supervisor – Professor Alekandras Targamadze. Completed by – Meilutyte, A. (2012) Due to the benefits provided by information technology, virtual studies are being increasingly used worldwide. Virtual studies can be used as an individual educational activity or a supplement to the standard educational process. The syllabus and educational material and be amended to the students individual requirements. When teaching foreign languages, it is highly important to stimulate the student’s motivation and engagement as well as supplying knowledge in phonetics, grammar and lexis. Therefore, the study curriculums are transformed into online exercises and activities in order to create a modern and engaging tuition system. To achieve this, software agents are used – they ease the job for tutors as well as students and stimulate engagement and motivation. In order to increase the efficiency of teaching foreign languages online, a two stage project was introduced. Firstly, an analysis of the capacities and scalability of teaching foreign languages online had to be done. Secondly, this data was used to design, implement and deploy a system based on software agents. This system had to assist users in the process of online foreign language learning. This document also contains the functional and non-functional requirements for the designed and implemented system. Architectural solutions as well as testing results can also be found in the later chapters.
