Abstract [eng] The aim of this research was to analyze information communication technologies (ICT) and interactive media application in the process of education, and to develop a special educational program for teaching and learning biology. In the 1st part of my research I have analyzed the research “Information Technology at schools” done by International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) in 1997 and considered the findings reported by Software & Information Industry Association in 2000. The research shows that modern information communication technologies (ICT) improve teaching and learning. ICT can have a significant positive influence on students’ results, attitude and on their relationship with teachers and peers. In addition to that, I have discussed how ICT are implemented in Lithuanian comprehensive schools. The analysis of natural sciences’ computer programs and their use in lessons was done with particular attention to theme “Energy metabolism”. I have come to the conclusion that ICT application in the natural science lessons opens the door to new possibilities for teacher and student. Interactive teaching stimulates team spirit and motivation, helps to satisfy students’ individual needs. The analysis of the teaching scheme for “Energy metabolism” showed that Lithuanian schools do not have enough educational programs for its teaching. That is why I made a decision to create ECI “Pyramid of Nutrition”. ECI “Pyramid of Nutrition” consists of two parts: teaching/learning and testing programs. Teaching/learning programs provide general information. Students have a possibility to play a game by dragging foods and building a healthy food pyramid. Also this software tests knowledge and teaches - if a students’ answer is wrong, the program gives the right one. In the testing part of the program students’ knowledge and ability to perform practical tasks are tested. Having completed the test, students are assessed and this part might be used for assessment and for self- assessment. ECI “Pyramid of Nutrition” was presented to the group of natural science teachers of Vilnius Pilaite Secondary School. The techers gave approbation of the interactive ECI “Pyramid of Nutrition” as suitable to use in the 9th classes.
