Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to increased risks and sense of uncertainty, felt not merely in Ukraine but also in other parts of the world a?ected event, and thus once again made the Suwałki Gap an important focal point of discourse, particularly in the media discourse. In the light of the ongoing events and discussions about Russia’s next move towards Ukraine and how this next step may a?ect other regions, the aim of the article is to analyze the narratives of risk and uncertainty of Suwałki Gap in national and international online media. =e study was conducted on a sample of 24 articles, including 11 in international media: New York Post, =e Guardian, CNN, Daily Mail, and 13 in national media: Fakt, Nasz Dziennik, Rzeczpospolita, Interia.pl. Onet.pl, which were published between February 24, 2022 and May 24, 2022. =e main codes and leading themes on which the content analysis was based were the type of social actor, its level, the type of object at risk and the type of risk object. Findings imply that Suwałki Gap, is indeed a focal point of discussion in national and international media yet it has also become a trigger and a setting for a considerable discussion about among others the status global security architecture and the new normal or new reality of European security, especially in the context of the NATO Baltic members, and the Alliance’s eastern .ank. =e results suggest that media narratives took into account mainly the perceptions of social actors such as presidents of states, top oEcials, ministers, military oEcers, diplomats, specialists, analysts, strategists or think thank expert groups while much less attention was given to the way civilians and general public perceive risk and uncertainty of Suwałki Gap. |
