The added value created by the manufacturing sector has great significance for the Lithuanian economy. The inflow of foreign direct investments promotes the development of this sector. For these reasons, there is a need to analyse what factors increase the attractiveness of Lithuanian manufacturing industry for foreign investments. The object of the work is foreign direct investments in the Lithuanian manufacturing sector. The aim of the work is to determine what factors determine the attraction of direct foreign investment in the manufacturing sector and to assess their impact. In order to achieve the goal of the work, four tasks have been formed: reveal the problems of foreign direct investment assessment and the need for assessment of their attraction in the production sector, after analysing the scientific literature, identify the factors that determine the attraction of direct foreign investment in the manufacturing sector, to prepare a methodology for the study of factors determining the attraction of foreign direct investment in the manufacturing sector, conduct a study of the factors determining the attraction of direct foreign investment in the manufacturing sector and provide recommendations. In the first part of the work, the situation of foreign direct investments in the manufacturing sector in Lithuania was evaluated. It was established that the number of new projects and newly created jobs in this sector has decreased. A lack of scientific literature investigating foreign direct investment at the sectoral level has been noted. According to the analysis of the scientific literature, the second part of the paper identifies the factors that affect the attractiveness of direct foreign investments in the manufacturing sector. It is highlighted that these investments can be determined by the country's main economic indicators, trade balance, various social factors and the results of companies already operating in the market. It is highlighted that many authors emphasize the productivity and efficiency of work. The research methodology developed in the third part of the work made it possible to assess the impact of factors on direct foreign investments in the Lithuanian manufacturing sector. The results of the research carried out in the fourth part of the work revealed that investments are significantly influenced by the country's gross domestic product, export volumes and the productivity of workers in manufacturing industries. The econometric evaluation showed that in the long and short term labour productivity has the greatest influence on the attractiveness of direct foreign investments in the Lithuanian manufacturing sector. |
