Abstract [eng] |
With increasing international competition and globalization processes, technological transformation in the age of the digital economy is gaining more and more advantage, while the competitiveness of traditional business models is decreasing. For this reason, a problem arises - how to comprehensively study the impact of business digitalization on the competitiveness of the Baltic States and identify the main conditions and indicators of business digitalization that can increase the competitiveness of the Baltic States? The goal is to carry out an assessment of the impact of business digitalization on the competitiveness of the Baltic States. Tasks: 1. To review business competitiveness trends and issues in the Baltic countries; 2. To carry out a theoretical justification of the connection between business digitalization and competitiveness and to identify models for assessing the impact of business digitalization on the country's competitiveness in a theoretical aspect; 3. Create an econometric evaluation model of the impact of business digitalization on the competitiveness of the Baltic States; 4. Conduct a study of the impact of business digitalization on the competitiveness of the Baltic States. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature, statistical analysis and econometric evaluation, carried out using the assessment of the stationarity of time series of indicators according to the unit root test, causality assessment according to the Granger’io test, development of the most suitable SLR and ARDL model and its error analysis. After analyzing the impact of business digitalization on the country's competitiveness at the theoretical level, it was found that the research is carried out by evaluating the relationships both between indices reflecting the level of business digitization and indices reflecting the country's competitiveness, and between specific indicators. The theory usually mentions the indicators reflecting the digitalization of business, which are used in the econometric assessment: R&D expenses, e-commerce, ICT/IT specialists working in companies, companies organizing training for their employees to improve their ICT skills, and broadband Internet coverage with more than 100 Mbps. GDP per capita was chosen as the indicator reflecting the country's competitiveness. The results of the study showed the different influence of business digitalization indicators on the competitiveness of the Baltic countries. It was discovered that indicators of business digitalization, which have a significant impact on competitiveness in one country, depend on competitiveness in another country. Also, after conducting an econometric evaluation, it was found that assessing the impact of business digitalization on the competitiveness of the Baltic States using linear regression models is not the most appropriate method due to the insufficient length of the data time series. The conducted research allows for the formulation of the following recommendations for further research: analyzing quarterly variable data, more detailed assessment of the causes of mutual dependence between business digitalization and the country's competitiveness indicators, and creation of nonlinear regression models. |
