Abstract [eng] |
In this Master thesis research work, we have used submerged arc welding technique to deposit the hard material of tungsten carbide and graphite on the plain carbon steel base metal and checking their hardness, their resistance to wear, microstructural changes in the structure. The flux mixture for the submerged arc welding was prepared from silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon oxide (SiO). Once the weld is done their hardness is calculated using hardness machine and then it is cut into 3 small pieces one for tempering, one for microstructural analysis and one for wear test. The specimens are tempered at different temperature and their hardness is noted down. To increase its toughness, tempering process is handled. The microstructure specimens are prepared by flat, mirror polishing and lastly etching the surface. The surface that is etched are observed under microscope with different magnification. Finally, wear test is conducted and the loss of material is analysed by observing and comparing the results with previous research works. The life of cutting tool can be drawn out, by minimizing its wear rate for machining processes. |
