Relevance of the topic. Several conceptual and empirical studies have examined the impact of various socialization agents on materialism and its link to life satisfaction. However, there are only few studies that have examined the link between young adults characterized by family communication pattern and the influence of peers, and the development of materialistic values as well as satisfaction with life. Research on consumer socialization describe parents as one of the main socialization agent. Nevertheless, according some previous researches, peer rejection is closely connected to adolescent materialism as well. Scientific problem. There is almost no research that analyze relationship between materialism and life satisfaction among young consumers. Most of such studies analyze the adults in general, but does not distinguish individual groups, such as young adults (18 – 25 years old). Taking into account the view expressed by Clark et al. (2001), the purchasing habits are formed at a young age continues throughout a person's life and forms with a consumption - related behavior. There is a need to find out young consumers materialism expression causes and understand how it is affecting their life satisfaction (Ersoy - Quadir, 2011). |
