Commercial banks play an important role of financial intermediary between lenders and borrowers as well as contribute to production and economic growth in the country by being an agent of financial resources. Banks seek for efficiency, maximization of benefits and competitive advantage through process integration that leads to an increase of market power and share.Objective of the research – Lithuanian banking sector. Goal of the research – determine the link between concentration and competition in the banking sector by employing innovative research and assessment methods of measurement of concentration and competition.The following tasks are set for the achievement of the goal: 1. Analyze and summarize papers and empirical research on the interrelation of competition and concentration in the banking sector. 2. Implement theoretical analysis of concentration effect on competition as well as definitions of competition and concentration in the banking sector. 3. Analyze modern methods measurement of competition and concentration in the banking sector. 4. Develop a methodology for measurement of concentration impact on competition and determination of concentration and competition level in Lithuanian banking sector. 5. Implement an empirical research on concentration and competition in Lithuanian banking sector. |
