Abstract [eng] |
Uneven settlement of foundation causes redistributions of internal forces in the load-bearing structures of the building, resulting in damage to the architectural elements of the building (e.g., cracks in the walls) and/or exceeding the limit values of the load-bearing elements. Research on the causes of this phenomenon is insufficient, and existing design standards do not provide clear design methods that could be used to minimise the effects of uneven foundation settlement. Structural engineers approach this problem by considering the tolerable limits of non-uniform foundation settlement given in the literature or by simply increasing the safety factors of the load-bearing elements. In this Master’s thesis, a digital study of the problem is carried out. A 12-storey reinforced concrete building was designed for the subject of the study in order to determine the redistribution of internal forces in the columns and beams due to the simulation of uneven settlement of the middle, corner and edge columns. The digital study was carried out by analysing a 3D computational model in the finite element analysis software “SCIA engineer”. The results show the redistributions of the internal forces of the elements adjacent to the column simulating the settlement of a non-uniform foundation and the variation of their exploitation with respect to the ultimate limit state. |
