The relevance of the subject. Economic globalization requires achieving and maintaining a high level competitiveness of both the country and its certain industry or sector. Lithuanian industry must withstand competitive pressure not only of the European Union, but also international markets. The biggest problem the industry is facing is the lack of competitiveness in both domestic and international markets, which is determined by many factors. The relevance of analysis of the competitiveness is promoted by the economic changes, which makes it dangerous to industries, companies and countries that does not have a real competitive advantage. Non food products retail chain sector holds a significant market share and strengthening of this sector, i.e. improving the competitiveness could become a priority, because the competitiveness – guarantee of each company's success. In order to increase competitiveness it is important to identify the determinants of competitiveness. After evaluation and an appropriate reaction to these factors, non food products retail chain sector companies could gain a competitive advantage over other companies.
