Abstract [eng] Copolymers of vanillin diglycidyl ether and various acrylates have been synthesized by combining cationic and radical photopolymerization. Vanillin diglycidyl ether was used as an antimicrobial biobased monomer. Acrylates were used as comonomers improving reaction rate, mechanical and thermal properties of polymers. The kinetics of photocross-linking was investigated by real-time photorheometry. Increasing the amount of acrylates in the initial mixtures increased the reaction rate and rigidity of the samples. Storage modulus values of the polymers range from 14,75 MPa to 38,48 MPa. The best rheological properties were obtained using compositions of vanillin diglycidyl ether and glycerol dimethacrylate. The polymers swell the best in toluene (240 – 360 %) and the worst in water (50 – 70 %). The yield of insoluble fraction and the cross-linking density increased with increasing amount of acrylate in the polymer. The polymer with the highest amount of glycerol dimethacrylate fragments was found to have the best mechanical and thermal properties, and the polymer with the highest amount of vanillin diglycidyl ether fragments showed the highest antimicrobial activity.
