When designing clothing for active leisure, it is really important to take into account factors such as comfortability and stability and while in use. Due to this reason knitted fabric, which presses oneself to the body, is elastic and comfortable while doing active sports is chosen for it. The purpose of this magister thesis is to determine the connection of weft knitted fabric structure and fiber composition to the stability of dimensions ant physical properties. In this project eight different fiber composition plated single jersey knitted fabrics, which differ not only in material but also in structure, have been analyzed. Researched mixed fiber fabrics were made out of cotton and bamboo viscose yarns combined with polyamide, polyester, polypropylene and “Coolmax®” fiber. Knitted fabrics made out of such combinations have good moisture transfer, moisture evaporation and air conductivity characteristics, which can enhance the feeling of comfort for the wearer. Designed plated single jersey fabrics were knitted with circular, wide diameter 22E class “Monarch” FXC-3S knitting machine. During research actual loop length, horizontal and vertical density of knits were measured also loop pitch, row height and surface density were calculated for washed and not washed samples. Air conductivity, dimension stability after wash process of five times, static water absorption and capillarity were identified. Conducted research shows that air conductivity, changes in the dimensions after washing processes, water absorption and capillarity depends on fiber composition and density of knits. The connection between fiber composition and dimension stability can be seen after the first wash. Results also show that knits knitted out of bamboo viscose yarns distinguish in better dimension stability rather than those of cotton. Based on research data knitted fabrics which incorporate polypropylene fibre distinguish in best air permeability while those which incorporate polyamide distinguish in less air permeability. One time washed fabrics were more susceptible to water absorption. |
