The rapid pace of life and the growing needs of society have an impact on the low interest in the obsolete form of museums. This problem is relevant in society as unattended exhibits can lead to the threat of extinction of cultural identity. Also, in line with the 2020 strategic action plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, the development of museums is necessary to ensure the preservation and awareness of historical and cultural memory, and to promote civic-national consciousness. Creating modern museums is a complex and complicated process, not only because of the need to preserve nationality, but also to provide individuals with free access to museum resources, which leads museums to have extra functions. This thesis discusses the necessity, importance and design aspects of modern museums and contemporary exhibitions which would remain relevant in society for as long as possible and promote cultural attractions as well as improve public availability. The object of research is museums (specifically the Museum of Lithuanian Aviation in S. Darius and S. Girėnas Airport), its environment, aviation history, museum exhibitions, architectural idea, level of innovation, significance in society. In research methodology it is used selection, analysis and systematization of literature sources and practical and historical material, research of similar projects using descriptive-comparative analysis, sociological research, descriptive, comparative, graphical and stylistic analysis of research results and experimental design and planning. After research, the main conclusion was that the visitor becomes the center of modern museum. Exhibition and architecture design are just tools to reach the best experience for visiting person. A very important aspect is the proper choice of the method of designing the museum exhibition: direct, random, radial, free planning methods. The field of review of the exhibits will depend on these methods. Equally important is the planning of spaces, as the size of the space conveys a feeling and an emotion, meanwhile the lighting and media emphasize the exhibits and the mood. The combination of these elements and the proper harmonization strengthen the narrative and is the basis for a successful and interesting exhibition. Successful modern museums share the following principles: presence of narrative, motive of past, present, and future, culmination aspect, meeting current needs of society, education, entertainment, feedback, possibility to interpret architecture, symbolism, functional diversity. |
