Abstract [eng] Cross-linked cationic starch was obtained by cross-linking potato starch with epichlorohydrin and then cationization with 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethyammonium chloride in alkaline solution. The cross-linked cationic starch derivatives with the degree of substitution of quaternary ammonium groups of 0,21 and 0,33 were synthesized by using various molar ratios of reagents. Cross-linked cationic starch derivatives were used for the adsorption of ibuprofen and diclofenac from their aqueous solutions under equilibrium conditions. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich adsorption models were used to describe the adsorption isotherms. It was found that adsorbed ibuprofen and diclofenac most effectively could be released into the sodium chloride solution. The results of sorbent regeneration showed that the cross-linked cationic starch is recoverable and could be reused for adsorption of ibuprofen and diclofenac from aqueous solutions.
