The topic of this project is engagement assessment in distance learning context. The paper reviews the definition of engagement in literature, substantiates the need for engagement assessment, reviews the importance of nonverbal language in learning and engagement expressions through nonverbal language, reviews face detection, facial expression recognition and input analysis solutions based on machine learning and / or algorithmic artificial intelligence, conducts research on the applicability of these solutions to assess engagement using freely available datasets of engagement-related data. Based on the research results and literature, a tool using facial expression and input analysis for automatic engagement assessment was designed and implemented using open source software. |
