Abstract [eng] |
Research shows that women with children have less access to employment and equal pay than men with same responsibilities or women who do not have children. However, it is not entirely clear what factors contribute to the negative impact of motherhood on employability and woman’s career. Some authors emphasize gender discrimination in the labor market, while others explore a broader list of possible factors: lost of competencies, skills and social connections, inflexible working hours, complicated childcare arrangements, critical employers attitudes and discrimination, societal stereotypes and stress due to difficult work-life balance. In Lithuania, this topic is still not given enough attention and detailed research has not been carried out to determine women's employment opportunities after maternity leave. The existence of these problems raises the question: What factors and their effects determine women's employability after maternity leave? |
