Abstract [eng] This Master‘s degree final project is a feasibility study of turboexpanders’ application for electricity generation in Lithuania’s natural gasses’ transmission system. If applied in natural gas reduction stations, turboexpanders could potentially increase the transmission system’s overall efficiency. The final project covers types of turboexpanders, their fields of application, and main characteristics. The most effective scheme of pressure reduction using turboexpander, and means of heat generation for gas preheating are proposed as well. Using PTC Mathcad platform, thermodynamic analysis model was created to process gas pressure reduction stations’ data points. Analysis results showed that the annual electricity generation potential in Lithuania’s natural gas transmission system is greater than 13 million kWh. Economical calculations concluded that turboexpanders’ application in Lithuania’s natural gas pressure reduction stations would not be an economically feasible investment.
