Lithuanian furniture industry is one of the most successfully working industry branches in the country. Analyzing the data of the activity results of this industry in the recent years it could be stated that the number of companies and working people has been increasing. The number of produced and exported production is increasing too. On purpose that Lithuanian furniture manufacturing companies could remain competitive not only in Lithuania, EU but also in all over the world, it is necessary to increase their environmental effectiveness saving natural resources. Master thesis research subject is solid furniture manufacturing. The aim is to analyse and evaluate the increasing effectiveness of the environmentally friendly measures in furniture manufacturing company. The objects of the paper: 1. To review relevant legal requirements for furniture industry; 2. To review foreign and Lithuanian furniture industry sectors; 3. To identify environmental problems in the furniture industry according to scientific research; 4. To investigate the increasing effectiveness of the environmentally friendly measures in furniture manufacturing company. 5. To evaluate two of chosen the environmental decision-integration capabilities in the analyzed company. The work consists of the following main components: introduction, literature review, research methodology, results and conclusions, conclusions, references. It was analysed the main legal requirements for the furniture industry, the economic situation of the furniture industry in the foreign countries and Lithuania, also it was identified the major furniture industry environmental problems. A description of the methodology used to carry out research work is in the second chapter. In order to improve the analysis of the company's environmental effectiveness it was based on the concept of cleaner production and used these research methodologies: • Material and energy balance; • The calculations of the emissions into the air; • The evaluation of the environmental costs; • The evaluation of the environmental and economical effectiveness; • Chemicals audit; • The calculation of solar power system; • The calculation of the sawdust briquettes technological line. It was analysed the solid furniture manufacturing company on the basis of cleaner production concept in this research work and set out the main environmental problems: • large quantities of pollutants are emitted into the ambient air (due to high electricity costs); • utilization of inefficient wood waste; It was offered some solutions for the increase of the environmental effectiveness in the company: • electricity production installing solar power system; • technology line installation of the sawdust briquette. Key survey findings: It is achieved high environmental efficiency installing the solar power innovation in the company and the indirect impact to the ambient air will decrease 9,25% (171,595, t/m). In this number will decrease – carbon dioxide 9,20%, carbon monoxide 0,04%, nitrous oxide 0,01%. Installing the technological innovation line of the briquettes, company will be able to use 100 % the product unpublished material that is sawdust and shavings waste which could be used for thermal energy or sold and this innovation could give significant economic effect 171 517 Euros income. Also, the implementation of this project, the company will contribute to the renewable energy resources saving, since sawdust briquettes - more calorific than a well-dried wood, so for the same thermal energy to extract sawdust briquettes should be less than timber. |
