Abstract [eng] |
Currently, gamification is becoming more popular in the education area, because it encourages learners to better master the learning material, providing them additional motivation and increasing their engagement. Utilizing gamification and developing gamified systems is a challenging task because interdisciplinary knowledge related to psychology, game design, curriculum development, and feedback assessment is required. The aim of this thesis is to facilitate the development of gamified educational information systems which increase learner motivation and engagement. The principles of gamification, the methods used in the development of gamified educational information systems, the methods and tools of game development are analyzed in this thesis. The result of the thesis is a methodology for development of gamified educational information system (SIMS development methodology). The methodology consists of three stages: game design, game information system development and feedback collection. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the SIMS development methodology, the earned value analysis gamified educational system was developed, which feedback demonstrated that that students' motivation was evaluated higher than average, moreover, after the integration of the system into the teaching process, the averages of the midterm exam increased compared to the averages of previous years. The SIMS development methodology was also experimentally examined by a survey of gamification experts. The results of the experiment demonstrated that the gamification experts evaluated the SIMS development methodology positively. |
