Abstract [eng] The consumer’s research was performed by way of analysis of factors which could affect the consumption of functional food in Lithuania. 374 consumers (129 men and 245 women) divided into 6 age groups (each not less than 50 persons), participated in the research. Results showed that men as well as women rarely used food products enriched with functional ingredients. Most of the respondents stated that small negative changes in the sensory quality or price of functional foods are not important for the choice and usage of these foods. Most popular functional ingredients in Lithuania are omega-3 fatty acids, prebiotics and probiotics. 36 % of men and 52 % of women stated that they have sufficient information about probiotics and prebiotics. There was no significant influence of the age of the consumers on the choice or consumption of functional food in relation with some changes in the sensory quality of these products. The senior consumers (over 60 year old) had more knowledge about functional food compared to younger consumers under 20 year old (p<0,001), 21–30 year old (p<0,01) and 31–40 year old (p<0,05).
