Abstract [eng] The structure, main goals, and nature of the work Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), its work collaboration of this commission with the European Union and implementation of its provisions in Lithuania the CAC are discussed in the paper. CAC is an international body intended to prepare food standards, guidelines, codes of practices and recommendations according to the common FAO/WHO programme. The main goal of this programme is the protection of consumers health and assurance of fair practices in food trade, promotion in developing standards both for governmental and non-governmental organizations. References to CAC standards are also made in the agreements of the World Trading Organization. Since the year 2003, a more active collaboration with CAC have been started by the European Union and the International Organization of Standardization. CAC annually prepares tens of new documents which are sent to member countries for evaluation and comments. It is important to follow transformation of the provisions of the CAC and implement them in Lithuania.
