Abstract [eng] In the XX century intensive globalisation and urbanization occurred, they both stimulated development of transport system, improvement and expansion of industry, better work opportunities in cities, migration of people to cities, appearance and spread of new technologies. These and other factors influenced change of territories of cities and towns – it manifested as enlargement of cities and change in their structure. Analysing this growth, structure, integrity, and continuity, it is possible to determine changes in urban models of cities that reflect their historical growth. Near future urban development is specified in a juridical instrument – a general plan of the city. Comparing the results of historical urban growth analysis and the statements of general plans of cities, it is possible to estimate continuity of urban development as aim to preserve distinctive urban and cultural features of our cities. Comparing analysis results among cities of different sizes, it is possible to evaluate models of ability of cities to adapt and develop under conditions of globalization.
