Abstract [eng] |
The current globalization process, multiple business environments, shorter life cycle of the product and vertical integration had a major impact on innovation significance in all sectors of activity. For these reasons innovation became one of the key factors for survival and existence, because that is how the changing demands and expectations of the consumers are satisfied and thanks to them the higher added value is created as well as the possibility of changing together with the changing world. Company executives realize that perspectives of their business depend on innovation and it calls for seeking answers how to assess company’s potential for innovation and development. Appropriate means of innovation measurement may enable a better understanding of innovation performance and encourage the management responsible for innovations to make informed decisions based on objective data, combining purposes and everyday activity in pursuing short-term and long-term innovation aims. Companies operate in various fields, have different structures and processes as well as strategies and aims, therefore the factors influencing the status of innovation performance differ as well. Scientific literature underlines that occurrence of innovation is related to company’s internal and external environment and the measurement of innovation performance is effective only when it is integral to performance assessment. Therefore when we want to measure innovation performance of the company we confront several problems. First, innovation performance may not take place because there is no required medium for occurrence of innovation activity. Second, innovation performance may take place but show no results since it is not measured. Third, innovation performance may be measured, but provide no significant information since it is not integrated in overall system of assessment of activity. Willing to solve these problems, the paper aims to shape a model identifying main compounds of innovation performance and allowing diagnosing the status of company’s readiness for measure of innovation performance. Object of the research: innovation capability and measurement of innovation performance. Aim of the research: to offer theoretically substantiated and empirically tested model of diagnosing readiness to measure innovation performance. Tasks of research: 1. to reveal the complexity of readiness to measure the innovation performance; 2. to form a model of diagnosing the readiness to measure of innovation performance; 3. to develop the methodology of empirical testing of the model of diagnosing the readiness to measure innovation performance; 4. based on developed model of diagnosing the readiness to measure innovation performance to perform the empirical testing and present recommendations and conclusions. Main results of research: following the analysis of scientific literature a model of diagnosing readiness to measure innovation performance has been developed. The model comprises two fields of measurement – innovation capability and measurement of innovation performance. Conceptual model of diagnosing readiness to measure innovation performance has been empirically tested performing case study analysis in three different services providing organizations. Results of empirical testing reveal that conceptual model of diagnosing readiness to measure innovation performance is an appropriate instrument for actual diagnosing of status of readiness of organizations for measure of innovation performance and their comparison and determining the status of different characters of innovation capability and categories of innovation measurement. On the basis of conceptual model we can shape general or specifically organization-targeted recommendations which may be used as an aid for development of innovation performance improvement plan. Empirical testing revealed that in order to develop an effective system of measurement of innovation performance first of all we need to asses the innovation capability which is the basis for occurrence of innovation as well as to determine current means of measurement and indicators of innovation performance. |
