Abstract [eng] Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol is widely used in device-to-device communications. While MQTT has three quality of service (QoS) levels, it does not integrate security mechanisms. Transport Layer Security (TLS) is the standard protocol on top of the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) to secure data in communications. In this paper, we evaluate the impact on energy consumption of MQTT protocol using its QoS levels over TLS.
