Abstract [eng] Significant environmental aspects of grain processing are associated with inefficient biodegradable waste management, natural gas consumption for thermal energy production and grain drying, use of chemicals for processing of manufactured products. All these aspects have an impact on air quality and climate change due to air pollutants and greenhouse gases; chemicals contain substances that are toxic and dangerous to the environment and human health. Possibilities for optimization of grain processing processes are proposed in the thesis for the increasing resource efficiency and reducing negative environment impact. UAB Baltic Agro was selected for the experiment. Grain processing processes, all material and energy flows were analyzed. The reasons of significant environmental problems were determined. The following technological processes have been selected for more detailed assessment: grain drying, production of thermal energy in the boiler house, management of biodegradable waste and produced grain finishing treatment. The study conducted an experiment: probiotic substances containing no hazardous substances were used for the treatment of dried seed grain instead of existing chemicals. An analysis of the results of the experiment showed that such a processing is effective in promoting grain growth and protecting them from pests. The introduction of innovation will reduce the chemicals used in grain processing processes.
