Abstract [eng] The effects of light parameters were determined on Kalanchoe pinnata Lam., grown in a controlled environment under solid–state (LED) lighting. By changing the photoperiod, photon flux density and spectrum, the optimal conditions were determined for antioxidant activity and bufadienolide quantity – 18 hours of 250 µmol m-2 s-1 red lighting. Significant light effects on the antioxidant properties and bufadienolide concentrations were achieved in young leaves, which make up only a small fraction of the total plant biomass. Improvements in the antioxidant activity and bufadienolide concentration achieved by increasing the photoperiod and adding additional spectral components (green or far–red) are not significant enough to counterbalance the increase in electricity consumption. The combination of white and far–red LED lighting also improved antioxidant properties, but these lighting components are not profitable, based on calculations.
