Abstract [eng] The aim of this study is to make an extraction of balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera L.) buds and evaluate amount of bioactive compounds and biological activity in extracts. Tasks of this study: to make an extracts of balsam poplar buds in different methods and solvents, to determinate the influence of solvets on the quality of extracts, to determinate the influence of extraction method on the quality of extracts, to evaluate antioxidant and antibacterial properties in extracts, to idetified bioactive compounds in extracts, using effective liquid chromatograp atliktihy. Methods used in this study: total phenolic content by Folin–Ciocalteu’s assay and total flavonoids content were carried out by spectrophotometric method; antiokxidant activity was evaluated using the ABTS•+ radical – cation scavenging assay method and oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay method (ORAC). Antibacterial activity of extracts was determined by diffusion method in vitro. Liquid extracts were produced using maceration and ultrasonic extraction techniques. Liquid extracts were lyophilized to concentrate the bioactive compounds. Bioactive compounds in the extracts were quantitate by effective liquid chromatography. In this study, 70 percent (V/V) ethanol is a more effective solvent than 30 and 50 percent (V/V) ethanol solvents and water. A higher amount of bioactive compounds in extracts was found using 70 percent ethanol as solvent. Amount of bioactive compounds from balsam poplar buds extracts using ultrasonic extraction method is a similar as using maceration method, although ultrasonic extraction time is 30 minutes and the maceration method is 6 hours (aqueous extracts) and 120 hours (ethanol extracts). Lyophilized ethanol extracts exhibited stronger antiradical activity. Extracts of balsam poplar buds had antibacterial activity against gam–positive bacteria (reference and clinical strains of S. aureus and reference strain of E. faecalis). Extracts did not inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria (E. coli and P. aeruginosa). The following compounds have been identified in the extracts: apigenin, coffein acid, p–coumaric acid, 3,5 – dicaffeoylquinic acid, hyperoside, catechin, chlorogenic acid, phloretine, isoquercetine, ferulic acid and salicin. The dominant compound is p–coumaric acid.
