Abstract [eng] The influence of mentoring on the career constructing of future professionals in the context of formal university programme is analysed in the thesis. The aim raised in the work is to reveal the influence of mentoring on the career constructing of future professionals. In order to achieve the aim a qualitative research has been performed. Research strategy used – case analysis of Career Mentoring programme being under coordination of Career and Education Centre of Kaunas University of Technology. Documents and articles on the programme announced by the University are analysed, interviews with a programme coordinator, mentors and mentees are done. When selecting data, methods of scientific literature analysis, document analysis and a semi structured individual interview have been applied. Qualitative content analysis has been used for data treatment. Having performed empirical analysis it was discovered that that the impact that mentors have is related to vocational or career and psychosocial principles and the chosen means are creation of interpersonal relationships, the ability to be guided by the principles of an activity and the usage of consulting strategies. When creating interpersonal relationships, mentors took on both the roles of direct and indirect impact oriented towards the mentees and compatible with their career questions. The usage of this strategy stimulated the growth of career confidence among future professionals enabling their self-efficacy and a smooth transition from the career exploration stage to the career establishment stage. The mentors were led by the fundamental principles of adult learning which are collaboration and mutual responsibility; this created a favorable emotional climate for the mentees and encouraged mutual learning. The mentor has used various consulting strategies: shared his experience, gave and answered questions, directed towards reading passages, inspired to join workshops, gave advice and career planning assignments. By using these strategies, mentors encouraged the vocational and career development of future professionals: the formation of professional self-concept of mentees, career curiosity, career confidence and career control as well as the growth of social capital.
