FDI is a significant factor in many national economies and particularly important to small and little known countries in the world like Lithuania. FDI has an impact not only on the economic development of the country, but also for individual regions of the country. In scientific literature there are plenty of studies investigating FDI, their determinants and their impact on the economic development of the country, but finding studies examining FDI impact on certain region of the country is extremely difficult. Whereas Kaunas region by gross domestic product size and attraction of FDI in the latter period is the second in Lithuania, the evaluation of FDI in Kaunas region is particularly important. The aim of this work is to make evaluation FDI impact to Kaunas region. Research object is FDI in Kaunas region. To reach the aim of this work the following tasks were formed: examine the theoretical aspects of FDI; analyze the FDI volume and structure in Kaunas region; perform FDI impact analysis to Kaunas region. The analysis showed that FDI can bring various benefits to the host country by gross domestic product growth, labor productivity growth, job creation, which contributes to the reduction of unemployment, technology and skills takeover from foreign countries. The analysis also revealed that in 2009-2012 years FDI volumes in Kaunas region tended to grow, but in 2008 FDI volume in this region decreased because of the uncertain economic situation in the world. The results also showed that FDI has a significant and positive impact on Kaunas region economic development through GDP and labor productivity growth. |
