Internationalisation and globalisation are changing the contemporary business world by increasing expectations from enterprises and organizations, and thus, the development of intercultural competences in a global context has recently been analysed by many scholars. Intercultural competence in the context of international business can be perceived from the individual and organisational perspective. From the individual perspective, intercultural competence is understood as certain personal attributes, knowledge and abilities associated with a successful career. Meanwhile, from the organisational perspective, it is associated with business success and more effective business operations management in all international departments. Scientific problem. The main problem analysed in this final project is related to the development of competences necessary to operate in intercultural conditions. Thus, the following problematic question is raised: How should intercultural competences be developed in an international trading company in constantly changing environment? The object of the project is intercultural competence in the international trade company. The aim of the project is to provide guidelines for intercultural competences‘ development in the international trading company Delta Plus Group. The following tasks are performed: (1) to present the research problematic of intercultural competences in international companies; (2) to analyse intercultural competences from theoretical perspective; (3) to analyse intercultural competences at the international trading company Delta Plus Group; (4) to prepare guidelines for the development of intercultural competences in the international trading company Delta Plus Group. Scientific methods: scientific literature analysis, comparative analysis, survey, semi-structured interview, document analysis. The project consists of four parts. The first part introduces the problematic of intercultural competence in an international trading company, analyses Delta Plus Group and presents contemporary research on the development of intercultural competences. The second part analyses the theoretical aspects of the development of intercultural competence: the cultural context of multinational companies, the concept of intercultural competence, its levels and tools, as well as the theoretical model of the development of intercultural competencies in the international trading company. The third part presents the empirical research methods in order to analyse the ways of intercultural competence development in the international trading company. The mixed methods were chosen for the research: a semi-structured interview with one of Delta Plus Group managers and a survey with the company's employees. The fourth part presents the results of the empirical study, which are linked to the insights of the theoretical part. The results reflect company’s managers and employees’ opinion on the internal and external factors affecting intercultural competence, individual employee characteristics, their knowledge of culture and proper intercultural behavior, attitudes and motivation for intercultural interaction, behavior, assessment of intercultural competence and what are the most important ways of development in the company Delta Plus Group. |
