Abstract [eng] This paper presents a review of refrigerant charge studies in a refrigerating system – sensitivity of system performance to charge levels, relationship of charge with superheat and subcooling, methodologies of charge measurement and calculation, existing charge reduction strategies and their applicability to transport refrigerating systems. For the low charge system one should not optimize the charge, but rather just ensure complete condensation. Such system could comprise of high pressure receiver, microchannel condenser and DX evaporator with TXV or EEV expansion device.
